There are some type of resumes that commonly used to apply for job vacancies. Which one that suitable? All will depend on your personal circumstances, you can choose a chronological, a functional, combination, or a targeted resume.

A. Chronological Resume

A chronological resume starts by listing your work experience or history, with the most recent position listed first.

Your jobs experience are listed in reverse chronological order with your most recent job, first. Many interviewers or users typically prefer this type of resume. Why? This type of resume is easy to see what jobs you have held and when you have worked at them.

Chronological resume is very suitable for applicants with a strong and solid work history.

B. Functional Resume

A functional resume is a type of resume format that focuses on your skills and experience, rather than on your chronological work history. It is very suitable for the applicants who are willing to change careers or who have gaps in their employment history.

C. Combination Resume:

This type of resume lists your skills and experience first. Your employment history is listed next. Advantage: You can highlight the skills you have that are relevant to the job you are applying for, and also provide the chronological work experience that employers prefer as well.

D. Targeted Resume

Targeted resume is a type of resume that is customized so that it specifically highlights the experience and skills you have that are relevant to the job you are applying for. Of course it will takes more work to write a targeted resume than to just click to apply with your existing resume. But it is well worth the effort when applying for jobs that are a perfect match for your experience and qualifications.

E. Mini Resume

As the name, this type of resume will contains a brief summary of your career highlights qualifications. It is usually being used for networking purposes or shared upon request from a prospective employer who may want an overview of your accomplishments.

Which type of resumes that suitable? as stated earlier, all depends on your personal circumstances

Most of us know that the hardest part on how to write a professional resume is knowing where to start. A resume is a tell-tale of what you have accomplished from a certain period and where you will need to show enthusiasm yet maintain professionalism in papers.

I myself have read huge of resumes that are riddled with typos, inconsistent such as – bullets in some places, dashes in others, bold in some headings, plain text in others, etc.

Do you want to know a sample of bad resume? The worst case I had ever received a resume was from a quite experience mechanical engineer, he wrote his resume on pink papers….LoL, and this resume was DHL’ed to me from other country. That’s why I still remember this case till now.

Basically, writing a professional resume needs to be effective, concise, consistent, clear, simple and of course easy to read.

How to Create a Professional Resume.

The following guideline should help you to write a professional resume, but of course you need to learn more from other resources.

A. Make A Rough Resume Draft

Type out a rough draft of your: past job or experience, education and any special skills that you have. This rough draft should list all the tasks and duties performed at every job title held. Each job should contain a 2-line summary describing your title and main duties. It should be followed with 3 to 4 1-line descriptions in a bulleted format. Old writer’s rule is – no more than 10 words per sentence. Take a note that a professional resume is clear and easy to follow.

Tailor your resume to job description, if possible. Highlight matching skills and keywords but be honest! Most employers conduct background searches. In the last 3 years. Beside of that, I have noticed an increase in the use of background search firms by companies. Do not creating a fictional resume.

Grammatically correct. You need to make sure your resume is grammatically correct–without typos and be sure to use correct contact information to make sure you get a response.

Use plain white or beige stationary to create a professional resume. Keep resume to two pages to three pages maximum. Do not use personal or flowery stationary and silly fonts on your resume. Keep it as simple as possible!

On a final note do not add references to your resume. References should be supplied on a separate reference sheet.

B. Choose the Best Resume format for your Situation

There are some type of resumes for you if you want to apply a certain job. All are depending on your personal circumstances, such as a chronological, a functional, combination, or a targeted resume format. Of course that taking the time to target your resume is well worth for your effort. Put your rough draft into this format.

C. Check Your Resume

This resume checklist includes the information you need to include on your resume. This checklist is to ensure that you have included all relevant information in your resume.

D. Proof Your Resume

Review these proofing guidelines to ensure that your resume is consistent and error free.

E. Get Resume Help

Writing a resume is hard work and it is very important to get help, or at least have your resume reviewed by somebody else before you send it to employers.

F. Read Resume Writing Book

These books include resume writing help, advice, suggestions, plus samples and examples for effective resume writing for all levels of job seekers from recent grads to experienced professionals.

G. Tips

You need to add a cover letter to highlight or summarize your skills.
